Both the brandy and the cognac are wine-based spirits. The method of production is the same for both brandy and cognac: the wine is distilled in a two-stage process. After the first distillation process, an intermediate product with low alcohol content remains, which is distilled again. The difference between a brandy and a cognac is that only very specific grape varieties may be used to make a cognac. With a brandy, on the other hand, you can choose from any type of grape.
Since brandy is made from wine, its origin is usually found where the wine is grown for distillation. Famous brandies come from countries like Italy, Croatia, Portugal, Greece and Spain. But also in Eastern Europe, such as Moldavia, excellent bradies are produced.
