A fruit brandy or fruit spirit is made from fruits such as apples, pears, plums, cherries or plums. A mixture of different types of fruit is also possible. To create it, the fruits are mashed, fermented and then distilled. The alcohol is thus obtained from 100 percent of the sugar in the fruit.
The finished fruit brandy is a clear, colourless liquid with a fruity, usually mild but intense taste. A noble fruit brandy is usually enjoyed at room temperature, as this is where its aromas are best expressed. However, it is also a pleasure when chilled on ice or in a good cocktail.
Today, fruit brandies at the bar are not as hip as gin or vodka. However, as the quality of the products has steadily increased in recent years, fruit brandies need not hide from the more popular spirits. Since practically any type of fruit can be distilled, the variety of flavours is immense. Thus, a good fruit brandy also offers an interesting starting point for new cocktail creations. Connoisseurs also appreciate the intense, fruity taste of a noble brandy.
