Daffy's Gin has been produced since 2014 by Chris Molyneaux and his wife Mignonne Khazaka at their own distillery "Strathmashie" in the Scottish Highlands. In this quaint setting, one would actually expect the production of a venerable whisky. However, the couple has specialized in a gin of a very special kind.
Seven gin-typical botanicals from around the world are used to make Daffy's Gin: Juniper, Coriander, Angelica Root, Lemon Peel, Cassia Bark, Iris Root and Orange Peel. However, as a special extra, Lebanese mint is added, which comes from the cultivation of Mignonne's father in the Bequaa Valley in Lebanon and gives the composition a very special touch. Once the selected botanicals have reached their optimal stage of maturity, they are macerated in neutral grain alcohol for four days and distilled. After that, the gin is bottled in the beautiful slim bottle, which is adorned by Daffy, the goddess of gin.
On the nose, Daffy's Gin smells of fresh oranges and lemons, woods and a minimal earthy note. A little later, the juniper also makes itself felt, which is surrounded by numerous other nuances. Thus, a woody-earthy note and clear citrus notes with a hint of Lebanese mint join in.
The aromas continue clearly on the palate. In addition, a balanced composition surprises with herbal notes of juniper and coriander. Refreshingly, the various citrus fruits emerge and very lightly the Lebanese mint plays up in the background. In the finish, the aroma of juniper again becomes somewhat stronger. This is accompanied by the subtle citrus notes, leading the drinking experience to its perfect conclusion.
Chris and Mignonne's goal was to create a gin that could be enjoyed neat on ice. They have succeeded wonderfully with Daffy's Gin.
