Woodford Reserve Malt Whiskey

The Woodford Reserve Malt Whiskey from the US state of Kentucky came on the market in 2018 and surprised the whiskey connoisseurs of the country with a barley malt dominance in the mashbill. So the USA is the country of Bourbon Whiskeys (with at least 51% corn) and Rye Whiskeys (with at least 51% rye). Malt whiskey, however, consists of 51% barley malt, 47% corn and 2% rye. Also unusual for a malt whiskey is the production process. Woodford Reserve Malt Whiskey is distilled like a Scotch Whisky in Pot Stills. The result is a particularly rich and complex whiskey. In accordance with the requirements of the American Code of Federal Regulations, it then matures in new casks of American white oak before being bottled in individually numbered and batched bottles.

Woodford Reserve Malt Whiskey has the scent of fresh nuts, light caramel and milk chocolate. It is joined by fruity notes of apples, dried fruit and tropical fruits, followed by brown spices, sugar and mint. On the palate, Woodford Reserve Malt Whiskey tastes of dark chocolate, caramel, nuts coated with cocoa powder and spices. This is accompanied by roasted coconuts with oak notes. The finish is convincing with nutty notes with sweet chocolate and malt aromas.
